LWD 009 : Tomi’s Magic Show – Tickets Anyone?

Hi gang!

Today’s show is a must for all parents single or not! This is my favorite rewards program I have used for years with all three of my children. They all loved this growing up and smile and laugh whenever we reflect on the times.

I’m talking about our Tickets!

Using tickets to reward your child for good behavior can be fun and games. No more will you have to sound like a broken record – or for your millennial’s – a digitized stuck recording, repeating yourself.

You will see a change in your child and wonder what happened to them? Whose kid is this any way? Who is this impostor posing as my child?

This is hands down my best tool for keeping your sanity and using positive reinforcement as a weapon against shouting. It is like magic!

I’m attaching my Ticket Chart to get you started.  You can use this or customize it in your own creative way. Feel free to share and if you strike gold, please leave a reply down below and let me know. I love hearing from you!

LWD 008 : How to Receive Your Kids Calmly and Transition Them Without Tears or Anxiety

Sending your children off with your ex and then a couple days later, receiving them is one of the hardest things to do, especially in the beginning of your divorce.

As grown adults we can suffer from separation anxiety. We find the separation difficult sometimes even though we might need it. To cope we might cry, call a friend, or find something to keep us busy.

For children of newly divorced parents, the transitions between households can create anxiety as well. But for children, their reasoning skills are not developed, nor are their coping skills. So it’s only natural that when they transition they fall apart in the first five minutes of arrival. You can almost set your watch by it. It’s predictable. One child might withdraw, another might cry and fuss, and another might rebel.

For these times I have a solution for you. I’m calling this my Transition Jar. Click on the link below and get your free template full of tons of ideas to help you transition your kids back home to you calmly and without anxiety.

This post is close to my heart because I know just how real and anxiety ridden sending and receiving your kids can be. Be it in the early stages of your divorce or in some of the later stages of the divorce.

I loved receiving my kids, but I was always anxious about it at the same time. Maybe that’s you. Maybe like me you would have paid money for someone else to do it for you—a body double! Hey, now there’s my next million dollar business! A service that actually will receive your kids for you so you don’t have to see or deal with your ex. That would be a gold mine people!

I digress.

Maybe it’s stressful for you to see your ex; to see how, on outward appearances, he/she is moving on. Maybe it is hard for you to receive your kids who might be going through ‘meltdown’ at the same time you are going through your own meltdown.

In any case I have some really good stuff for you today. In this episode I reference a great article by Christina McGhee of Parenting Apart called, Helping kids transition between Mom’s and Dad’s house. Check it out.

Christina’s article compliments today’s podcast and is also all about helping children of divorce transition between mom and dad’s homes.

I’d also like to give thanks to Ruth Soukup of Living Well Spending Less for the template for my Transition Jar ideas. You can visit Ruth at Living Well Spending Less.

One of the best things you can do to ensure your goal is met is to have a support team. When it comes to exercise have different goals with different friends for various exercises. I have had the same running partner for over 22 years and I know we push each other every time we run.

I started planking as a challenge with a co-worker who no longer works with me, so I have carried on and every day I plank I try to get someone to join me. My intent was to inspire others to do the same. Here’s a video I did of me planking.

Here’s the video: The 14 Minute Plank

Here’s why I did it: Why I Do a 14 Minute Plank

When I bike ride, I’m always seeing if someone wants to come. It just makes the experience more enjoyable and more like socializing than working out.

Huffington Post Article I wrote, Relationship Experts Weigh in on Their Top Three Gifts for the Newly Divorced

My favorite budget-friendly drugstore lipstick:

  • Neutrogena Moisture Smooth lipsticks are my summer favorites. They’re light and the color stays. They don’t have a terrible waxy tast either. I love to buy at Rite Aid for the simple fact that you can return all cosmetics, no questions asked. This is handy because unless you can try the stuff on, shopping for make up is like shopping for shoes—you need to try it on. Look for the weekly ads in your paper.

My favorite wrinkle cream:

  • OroGold is my favorite wrinkle cream to date. It’s outrageously pricey, but it’s like botox without botox (I think. I’ve never done botox and won’t either). But I won’t ever buy this again for the simple fact that it is way expensive. It was a gift and wow the results are unbelievable. Personally I can’t justify spending that kind of money on my face. I’m an Oil of Olay girl the rest of the time. You know the 2 for 1 stuff at Costco. When I was a kid my regimen was rubbing alcohol and cold cream at bedtime! So here’s the bomb…I just found out OroGold is doing a giveaway worth $700 between now and May 15th, 2017. All you have to do is go here and either subscribe to their news letter or there are a few other simple options you can do to get entered into the OroGold Giveaway.

My favorite online consignment store:

My favorite places to buy fragrances:

  • Macy’s (only at Christmas time because of the sales)
  • Bath and Body
  • Walgreen’s has the best knockoff fragrances when you are on a budget.

Some of the links above are affiliate links, which means that if you choose to make a purchase, I will earn a commission. This commission comes at no additional cost to you. Please understand that I have experience with all of these companies, and I recommend them because they are helpful and useful, not because of the small commissions I make if you decide to buy something. Please do not spend any money on these products unless you feel you need them or that they will help you achieve your goals.
